Data Center Optimization Initiative and You
2019 Edition

In April 2019 the GAO published a 98-page report titled “Additional Agency Actions Needed to meet OMB Goals". This white paper presents the most recent information available from the United States General Accounting Office (GAO) on the progress by the respective federal agencies towards compliance with the Data Center Optimization Initiative (DCOI).

The easiest way to ensure that the agency can measure the power usage of its’ IT infrastructure is to use intelligent PDUs having remote management capabilities. These power strips enable DCOI compliance by providing:

  • Data collection of power consumption at the outlet, device, and cabinet
  • Support for reporting, alarming, and smart load shedding capabilities
  • Support for environmental sensors such as temperature, humidity, floor moisture, and so forth
  • Facilitating capacity planning and rack consolidation, leading to data center consolidation
  • Switching off unused or underutilized assets (zombie servers, storage, load balancers, etc.) resulting in lower IT power consumption and higher efficiencies

Overview

It has been obvious for some time that the power distribution system within the data center is the key opportunity to focus upon in order to actively manage the rising costs of power and more specifically, identify problems and waste in real-time. With future-thinking organizations sharing knowledge between Facilities and IT, the push for more intelligence within this rack-based power infrastructure has become urgent with higher rack power densities. In fact, proactive power management at all stages in the distribution chain within enterprise data centers has become the requirement to feed efficiency studies and optimization efforts.

Key Features of PRO2

The latest innovation from Server Technology, the PRO2 platform, continues Servertech's more than 30 year tradition of customer driven power solutions development. PRO2 features a flexible hardware platform with more outlets, a faster processor, improved firmware and increased security and redundancy. With PRO2 you can maintain high availability to your data, stay informed of rising loads and be proactive on your power supply management.

Server Cabinet Power Distribution

The goal of our product line and the design of our manufacturing process is to allow our customers the ability to find exactly the right set of power distribution features for their application: from horizontal to vertical, 120V to 415V, low density to high, and from managed/intelligent to not.

Intelligent Power Distribution

Intelligent PDUs combine power distribution, power control, and data collection within a single unit. They supply more power to more devices while providing key information through PDU networking.

Flexible Power Distribution

Server Technology's HDOT Cx PDU, featuring the revolutionary Cx outlet, accommodates both C14 and C20 plugs, reducing the complexity of the PDU selection process and limits the need to purchase a new set of PDUs when equipment changes, resulting in lowering end costs.
